With most schools on holiday break, you may be racking your brain trying to think of fun activities to do with your kids.
Cough, 10 Under the Radar Holiday Happenings in Cincinnati, cough.
In addition to the (shamelessly) aforementioned list, let me also suggest Krohn Conservatory’s seasonal show, The Poinsettia Express.
Krohn Conservatory might not immediately come to mind as the most interesting place for kids — but I promise you, they’ll absolutely love this special exhibit!
Walk in and you’ll be greeted by warm air, lush foliage, bold pink and red poinsettias — and trains. Lots and lots of trains.
Built from tracks made out of manipulated tree branches and natural materials, The Poinsettia Express is truly a sight to behold. Various trains circle around the intricately crafted houses, buildings and Cincinnati landmarks — and older kids will love identifying places like Union Terminal and the Great American tower. Meanwhile, Thomas-loving tots will go crazy for Thomas, James and Percy as they huff and chuff around the tracks (seriously — Harvey was squealing with excitement!).
Then there are the rest of the Krohn gardens — which are outfitted with trains and tracks, as well. The cool thing here is that the trains weave through real flowers, plants and pools — so your kids will get a little botany lesson while they go! In fact, Julian said his favorite part of the exhibit was the “chocolate tree,” which had real cacao pods that we got to see up close!
I highly recommend taking your family to this special holiday show. I can pretty much guarantee that we will be back again over our holiday break — and I’m looking forward to it!
The Poinsettia Express runs daily through January 3. Admission is $7 and free for kids 4 and under — and be sure to download a $1 coupon before you go!
The Krohn Conservatory is located at 1501 Eden Park Drive in Eden Park, Cincinnati, OH 45202.
