Q&A with X-treme HorsePower DAY CAMP at Heavenward Farm and Horsemanship
What makes your camp unique?
Heavenward Farm’s DAY CAMPS provide a well-rounded faith-based experience held 100% outdoors. Our riding instruction allows for children to advance at their own pace.
What activities are offered at your camp?
Horseback Riding Instruction, Stable School to learn about all things equine, Trail rides, Fishing, Canoeing and Pedalboating, Crafts, Life lessons from the Bible, Team games, Scavenger hunts and more.

What is the camper-to-counselor ratio?
We have a 3:1 camper to counselor ratio.
How much time do the campers spend outside?
The entire camp day is spent outside.
Does the camp provide lunch/snacks or do parents need to provide them?
Campers bring their own lunch and we eat together under a canopy.

What is the typical daily schedule for campers?
Campers arrive at 9:00am and we start off with a positive thought for the day. They partner up and lead their horses/ponies out of the barn to groom and tack up together. The groups go through a rotation of 3 activities: Riding, Stable school, and Recreation. After two groups have ridden, we wash up and go to lunch. Lunch is followed by a Scriptural life lesson and discussion along our theme for the week, and then Craft time. In the afternoon, there is one more rotation, and we wrap up with a game and giving their horses some hay before they leave for the day.

How old are the counselors and how are they trained?
We have several adult Staff and a team of experienced adult volunteer staff, including Nurses and Clinical Counselors. Volunteer staff must be 16 years old (14 for Pony Camp), and all receive training in safety, policies, and how to teach and lead children of the ages with whom they are working.
What accommodations are made for campers with special needs?
Our program addresses children as individuals, and while they must be able to function in a group setting, we have staff who are professionals in handling mental, emotional and behavioral challenges. We can accommodate medical conditions (such as Diabetes) and certain physical limitations; however, campers must be ambulatory and able to follow instructions.
