Q&A with the Camp Art Academy:
What makes Camp Art Academy unique?
In Summer 2024, Camp Art Academy will focus on one artistic discipline each week: drawing, painting, textile, sculpture, printmaking, then illustration. This structure allows artists-in-training to experience focused and in-depth instruction in their areas of interest. Lessons across all six weeks include art-making that merges social-emotional learning with studio-based instruction. At the end of each week, students celebrate their artwork with a gallery opening for friends and family!
What activities are offered at Camp Art Academy?
Students will take inspiration from artists across the world in addition to notable AAC alumni as they create individual and collaborative art projects. Not only will students have fun applying imagination and creativity each day, but they will also employ skills in science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) to craft their projects. By the end of Camp Art Academy, young artists will have helped build a creative community, practiced many new techniques and methods with their instructors, learned invaluable life skills, and shared their sense of self and imagination through storytelling.
What is the camper-to-counselor ratio?
Camp Art Academy has a ratio of five students per one staff member. There are two classrooms: one for ages five-eight and another for ages nine-twelve. Each of the two classrooms has a maximum of twenty students and is led by an instructor, a program assistant, and two teaching assistants.
How much time do the campers spend outside?
Camp Art Academy is an indoor camp hosted on campus, in state-of-the-art classrooms with large loft windows overlooking historic Over-the-Rhine and Downtown Cincinnati. Students have access to college campus resources including galleries and collaborative flex spaces.
Does Camp Art Academy provide lunch/snacks or do parents need to provide them?
Students must pack a lunch and two snacks and are encouraged to bring refillable water bottles. We do not provide any snacks or lunches.
