Great Parks volunteers will beautify the big lands near Winton Lake by removing garbage and recyclables in the first ever Protect Your Wild event on Earth Day, Saturday, April 22!
Hard work in the morning will be followed with fun Earth Day activities, open to everyone, at Winton Woods Harbor in the afternoon!
Volunteer pre-registration is required at here! No registration is required for the Protect Your Wild celebrations beginning at 11 a.m.
Individuals and groups will fan out around the lake to collect aluminum cans, fast food bags, paper cups, chip wrappers and possibly even larger items such as spare tires, carried in by rainstorms or left behind by visitors. The previous version of this event, known as the Winton Woods Cleanup, typically attracted more than 100 volunteers who routinely removed more than one ton of garbage each year.
After the garbage removal in the morning will come the Earth Day celebration during mid-day, with educational booths, food trucks, vendors with sustainable products, live entertainment, games and upcycling. Local brewery High Grain Brewery will offer craft beer for purchase. Environmental education activities, crafts and sustainable practices will be featured and demonstrated. Volunteers will receive food truck vouchers and Protect Your Wild swag. Thanks to Yelp! as the proud partner of this program.
