Cincinnati Classical Academy provides a traditional, time-tested alternative to modern trends in education, offering a content-rich curriculum in the classical liberal arts and sciences, with instruction in moral character and civic virtue. We aim to prepare students for life, not just for college and career, through formation of the will to desire what is good, true, and beautiful. We rely on teachers, not digital devices, to teach, inspire, and form our students. We use primary sources and classic literature so that students can converse with and learn from the greatest thinkers who shaped Western culture and institutions.
The CLASSICAL curriculum is balanced between language, literature, math, history, science, and the arts. In lower grades, language is taught through explicit phonics and grammar, cursive handwriting, sentence diagramming, and the study of Latin. Singapore Math is used to develop algebraic thinking. These studies will prepare students for courses in logic, rhetoric, economics, moral and political philosophy, and government in upper grades, and also for robust curricula in literature, history, modern languages, mathematics, and the sciences.

CLASSICAL requires students to wear uniforms to eliminate distractions, to level the playing field, and to remind ourselves that we are doing important work. Students are required to dress according to the appropriate uniform and to adhere to dress-related regulations. The uniforms are comfortable, attractive, durable, and affordable.
Does Cincinnati Classical Academy have a homework policy?
CLASSICAL believes in the importance of homework; however, we believe that assigning homework must be reasonable to ensure students can still spend valuable time with family and friends. Our rule-of-thumb is that students will be assigned approximately ten minutes of homework per day per grade – meaning, for example, 1st graders can expect 10 minutes each night and 6th graders can expect 60 minutes each night. Reading of literature outside of class is expected of all students.
How many children attend the school? How many students are in the average classroom?
Enrollment is expected to reach capacity of approximately 415 students across grades K-6. Classroom sizes range from 22 students in kindergarten to 26 students in fifth and sixth grades.
Does Cincinnati Classical Academy offer support for students with special needs?
CLASSICAL is committed to serving all who wish to receive a classical education. We, therefore, will offer accommodations through our Department of Student Services to any student who qualifies for an IEP (Individualized Education Program) or a 504 plan. We also believe that all students are best served in the general education classroom.
What specialty classes / extracurricular activities does Cincinnati Classical Academy offer (gym, art, language, sports etc.)?
CLASSICAL requires four years of Latin, beginning in grade 6, and Greek and Latin word roots will be introduced in grades 4-5. After grade 9, students may continue with AP Latin or study a modern world language.
Music, art, and physical education are included as core subjects in the school curriculum from kindergarten onward. Students will attend one music or art class and one physical education class each day.
As students are exposed to the fine arts in the core curriculum, they will also be afforded opportunities to explore their unique skills and talents through after-school extra-curricular fine arts programming. As the school grows, Cincinnati Classical Academy aims to mentor student performance groups in choral music, instrumental music, and drama; promote student participation in juried and exhibited visual arts; and encourage development of creative writing skills through participation in Power of the Pen.
